The Hallway Trick
Today I wanted to teach you guys a very simple trick that can help you when setting levels in your mixes more accurately. When setting levels in a mix, one of the oldest tricks in the book is to step out into the hallway. Yep, you heard that right. After you have set your levels at what you think is perfect. Turn your speakers to a medium level of volume, step into the hallway outside your studio, close the studio doors and listen to the mix through the door at a medium level. You’d be surprised how much insight you’ll gain from hearing the mix at a distance without every instrument sounding so close to you. I used this very same trick when mixing my track “The Sky”, Click Here to check it out if you haven’t already. Try this tip out next time you’re mixing & I promise you’ll be glad you did!
